Gerry Adams in conversation – Carrickamcross
One of the most influential figures in recent Irish history will be in Carrickmacross next Thursday for a public engagement following the publication of his new book ‘Black Mountain and other stories’.
Adams, the leader of Sinn Féin from between 1983 and 2018, will be at the Carrickmacross Workhouse on Thursday 28th July at 7.30pm. He will engage in a conversation about his new book, read extracts from it, and participate in a question and answer session with members of the audience.
‘Black Mountain and Other Stories’ is Gerry Adams 19th published book. He has also published a book of poetry and seven Léargas books in which he writes about well known republican leaders he has known, including Máire Drumm, John Joe McGirl and Bobby Storey, Michael Davitt and others.
His first book – Falls Memories was published in 1982 by Brandon Press. Ten years later his first book of short stories – The Street and Other Stories was published.
Black Mountain is also book of short stories. There are eleven new stories and five which were previously published. The Foreword is by well known author Timothy O’Grady who depending on Covid regulations hopes to be at the book launch.
Black Mountain and Other Stories is published by Brandon books, an Imprint of O’Brien Press.

Speaking ahead of the event, local Sinn Féin TD, Matt Carthy encouraged people to attend. He said:
“Gerry Adams has been a significant figure in Irish politics. But, he is also a renowned author. His writings can be thought-provoking, inspiring, sad but always interesting.
“This will be a great opportunity for people in Co. Monaghan to meet Gerry and to put questions to him. There is a warm welcome for everyone to join us in the Workhouse next Thursday.”
